Abstract

Pharmacovigilance is the science and activities relating to the detection, assessment, understanding and prevention of adverse effects of medicines or vaccines or any related problem.1 Etymologically, the word pharmacovigilance has been derived from “Pharmakon” and “vigilia” meaning “to keep watch of medicinal substance”. Despite all efforts from national healthcare initiatives, there is still lack of awareness among healthcare practitioners about pharmacovigilance and very few of these practitioners even practice to report adverse side effects to the regularity authority.
